| The Home Improvement Council of Western New York was organized in 1964 at the request of members concerned with upgrading the standards and image of the remodeling industry. It was also created to focus on the following areas:
 • A better image for the remodeling industry
• Member participation in monthly meetings to
exchange information and develop programs
• Information for contractors and consumers
• Organizing annual Home Improvement Council shows
and events
• Compliance with professional ethical standards and
government regulations
• Education of members to do a better remodeling job
• Member contractors who are established, insured, and reputable
• Contractor/consumer complaint mediation
The HIC Emblem helps to identify and protect the participating members of the HIC and assures the prospective consumer that his work will be performed under the ethical standards of the Home improvement Council.
Consumer confidence must be earned.
One of the most important missions of our Council is to serve the home improvement consumer by requiring adherence to the highest standards of business practice among our members. Our members know that consumer confidence has to be earned. The various programs offered by the HIC to its members are geared to produce professionalism in all aspects of running a remodeling business. Our members have the opportunity to keep abreast of the latest developments in products, applications, and innovations, which pertain to their particular specialties.
The HIC prides itself on its strong relationship with the Better Business of Western New York and the New York State Attorney General's Office.
